"The Cut"
The first of a series of rustic scenes and civil war era structures, this strong colored pencil rendering shows a sturdy stone building built originally for the storage and preservation of game, now used to store and protects fresh cut firewood for the cold Northern Virginia mountain winters. Especially captivating are the powerful surrounding trees which have survived many harsh winters and generations of struggle.

"Too White to Plow"
This impressive stone and wood structure was built in the late 1830’s: the bottom floor used to house cattle during the harshest of winters and the top two floors for the protection of the crude farming machinery of the time and for the storing of hay for the cattle.
When viewing this powerful colored pencil illustration, the strength of the structure is obvious. More subtle but no less commanding is the quiet, the indelible stillness. There is an eeriness, a hushness, a reverence to this scene. There is history here.
